*Online Video Tips and Strategies for Authors and Writers*

Today I am going to talk to you about how you can use online video to
promote yourself as an author of a writer. Before I do so I wanted to share
with you some of the benefits of using online video being an author and a
writer.

As an Author, video can be a great way for people to get to know you and
the person behind the book. You can use video to share your story about
what inspired you to write the book and how the book will benefit anyone
reading it.

Video in general is also the ideal way to raise awareness about your book
and your brand. When you optimise your videos for the search engines, they
are much more likely to appear in the Google search, and when a video is
seen in a google search people are much more likely to click on it.

How can you use video to promote yourself as an Author or Writer though?

1) *Read an excerpt from your book* – Writers are usually very eloquent
with their words and video can allow you to express your words fully.
Allowing people to truly engage with you and your content while generating
interest for your book.

2) *Video Interviews* – Interviews are a great way to share your book and
your story. Today it is much easier to create a video interview. You can
have a friend ask you questions behind the camera or use a live google
hangout as these will be live online where people can comment and share.
Hangouts are also a free tool to use and take advantage of.

3) *Call to Action for FREE Chapter of Your Book* – Its always important to
have a call to action at the end of a video. This is a great way to inform
people about your book and invite them to download a chapter for free in
return to be added to your list.

discussion of your work.

No, seriously: if an online video is a good tool to promote a book which
contains a message to the world, one can also spread the message in a video
itself instead of burying it in a book. If you suggest to use online videos
to promote a digital work, which is only made accessible after payment, you
obviously suggest to use online video to trick people to pay for things
which could be communicated freely, but which aren’t due to the traditional
model of artificial scarcity. I suggest a rather different approach: charge
for the creation of works instead of access to them, promote yourself as a
service (probably with online videos, too) and provide real value to the
customer.
